Remember when we watched Princess Fiona fall in love with a loud-mouthed, green ogre? Or when we saw a lazy Elizabeth Halsey earn the title of 'bad teacher?' Safe to say, we've seen Cameron Diaz in just about every role imaginable... until 2014, that is.

It's been over 5 years since we watched the blonde beauty disappear from the spotlight - as we saw her take the big-screen one last time - with her role in 2014's Annie; And, well, we've got to wonder: what in the world went wrong?

Or better yet, what went 'right?' If you ask Cameron Diaz, a whole lot. That's right, the star just sat down with A-list pal, Gwyneth Paltrow, to explain her mysterious disappearing act, and we've finally got some answers.

“It’s a strange thing to say, I know a lot of people won’t understand it," Diaz began to explain. "It was so intense to work at that level and be that public and put yourself out there." In fact, if you ask her, the actress had "handed off parts of my life to all these other people."

So what did she do? "I stopped and really looked at my life,” she continued. “I had been going so hard for so long, working, making films, such a grind. I didn’t make any space for my personal life."

Flash forward to today, and the now married, mother-of-one couldn't be happier with her new reality. How did she explain it? “Like peace; A peace in my soul because I [am] finally taking care of myself.”
