Let's be honest, no matter how many times the media shames TikTok for interrupting Gen Z's perception of reality, we can't deny the platform has introduced us to a world of best-kept secrets and life hacks. From getting us through the 2-year pandemic, whipped coffee blends, dance, fashion, and beauty trends, TikTok is the unspoken genius bar for all marketers and growing talent! Once again, it has succeeded in taking a new beauty hack and making it viral, and unsurprisingly, your best friend this summer is... water.

Temperatures are rising by the minute, and of course, we're getting glammed up this summer - so don't let the heat take defeat! TikTok's latest beauty hack has erupted online, and foolishly, it's simply mixing your foundation (or favorite form of coverage) with water. You heard us: no more melting makeup, slips, or smudges. Though users claimed this hack was seen on a TV ad for waterproof foundation, calling it a 'gimmick,' TikTok's loyal users will almost try anything to get something going viral for their beauty community. Mixing foundation with water removes excess oil from the product, lowering its thick consistency for a lighter application and texture. Now, the makeup will sink to the bottom and might curdle due to its thick consistency, but don't let that prevent you from reaching for your brush. TikToker @jacquelinekilikita could safely say, 'hand on heart, my makeup didn't budge an inch after six hours of wear.'

If you're quick to judge or hesitant about this hack, setting spray after application should do a pretty good job. But what about those lazy natural look days? Huda Kattan, founder of Huda Beauty (with 8.1 million TikTok followers!), tried the hack for herself. Suspicious at first, she caved and saw unreal results. Huda tested out the coverage by thoroughly dabbing a paper towel on her face, only to find out very little to nearly no foundation came off #omg. Considering your skin type, how oily it is, or just simply the type of foundation you're using, don't knock it till you try it.

TikTok never fails to surprise us with the content that shows up on our #fyp, introducing us to hacks we never thought we needed. Initially attracting a younger audience, its targeted demographic has expanded to reach and attract users and viewers of all ages. Though hard to admit, we've all learned something pretty cool on the platform. While people thought it would die out like Vine or MySpace, it looks like TikTok is here to stay with constant new changes to adapt to every incoming generation as well as great content. Just say thank you!
