The childhood TV star that blessed us with The Amanda Show and She's the Man is reportedly doing great - almost nine years after struggling with substance abuse and hospitalization. So well, in fact, that just a short time ahead of her 36th birthday, Amanda Bynes is seeking to end her nearly nine-year-long conservatorship. Here's what we know so far.
A little recap for those who forgot - it all started in the summer of 2013, when Bynes was hospitalized under a 72-hour mental-health evaluation hold after setting fire to a driveway. The actress' mother was then given temporary conservatorship over her affairs to allow Bynes to focus on her well-being. Since then, her health has improved significantly, and it was recently reported that her conservatorship had not been extended through 2023.
"Amanda wishes to terminate her conservatorship. She believes her condition has improved and protection of the court is no longer necessary," Bynes' lawyer, David A. Esquibias, said in a statement to PEOPLE. "It is open day to day. A status report regarding her health and welfare was recently filed and approved by the court. By law, the next status report is due in two years. Her conservatorship will terminate when it is no longer convenient for Amanda," he continued. He also added that the All That star is "doing great" just a little over a month before her 36th birthday. "She lives by the beach, attends school, and is enjoying meditation and Soul Cycle classes," he shared.

In October 2020, he also reported to PEOPLE that the actress is taking classes at California's Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising after receiving her associate's degree in 2019. "Amanda is very entrepreneurial. She is investigating fragrances. She is now considering perfume in addition to a clothing line. But don't get too excited. She is still a student at FIDM earning her degree," he shared. Despite Esquibias' warning, fans probably can't wait for the Easy A singer's project to drop. And this isn't the only good thing going on in Bynes' life - in case you forgot, she's engaged to be married! The Nickelodeon star announced the news on Valentine's Day in 2020 - less than a year after she started dating Paul Michael, who she met at her former sober living home in 2019. Only time will tell where the actress's bumpy journey will take her next. Be sure to stay tuned for more updates!
