There is no doubt that The Devil Wears Prada actress, Anne Hathaway, has played many diverse roles throughout her career. Her beaming smile and expressive personality have starred in some of our favorite movies! However, after years of keeping a secret, she's finally breaking her silence on a role she does not want anymore.
In an interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, The Princess Diaries star spilled the tea on what she actually wants to be called. Nearly 2 decades after her breakout role, she revealed that the only person to call her "Anne" is her mother. But, only "When she's really mad at me, like really mad," said Hathaway.
So, why not go by another name? Well, Hathaway gave Fallon the scoop. The Oscar winner explained the story of getting her official SAG card for the Screen Actors Guild. When they asked what she wanted her name to be, she replied with the only name she had ever known, Anne Hathaway. But, this was a mistake.
The Ocean's 8 actress recalled, "It never occurred to me that for the rest of my life, people will call me Anne." Talk about regret! With a smile on her face, Hathaway told Fallon, "People are so lovely, they don't want to be presumptuous...the truth is nobody's comfortable calling me Anne ever. It doesn't fit. I'm an Annie."
She went on to say, "People call me Miss H, people call me Hath, so feel free, call me anything but Anne." Well... you heard it here. Anne is out, and Annie is in! Maybe she'd even consider trying out Amelia Mignonette Thermopolis Renaldi, Princess of Genovia again.
Annie, Hath, or Hathaway (this might take some time to get used to) stars in HBO's new original, Locked Down.
The film begins streaming on January 14th and features Chiwetel Ejiofor alongside the Emmy winning actress. According to HBO, you can expect to see "A breakup, a pandemic, and a heist." Are you ready? Because we sure are!
