Britney Spears' Mom Calls Her Daughter "Courageous" in New Court Petition
| LAST UPDATE 07/08/2021
It's been a roller coaster of a ride keeping up with our Princess of Pop and everything related to her conservatorship. Spears shocked some fans and confirmed what the Free Britney movement has been saying for years after speaking out against the legal arrangement in late June. Now, the singer's mom has also addressed the court. Here are all of the latest updates.
In case you missed it, Britney's attorney Sam Ingham resigned on Tuesday, July 6. And it looks like that pushed the performer's mom to speak her truth. The day after the lawyer's resignation, Lynne filed a petition asking to hire private counsel on behalf of her daughter. "This Motion to Appoint Private Counsel is of the utmost importance and may very well impact each and every of the other requests submitted by Conservatee in her live testimony at the June 23 hearing," the documents state.

"It is self-evident that before the Court addresses, for example, the termination of the conservatorship, Conservatee must be allowed to consult with counsel of her choosing," the court petition continues. The 66-year-old also called her daughter's speech "very courageous" and affirmed that Britney "is able to care for her person" and "earn literally hundreds of millions of dollars as an international celebrity."
"Her capacity is certainly different today than it was in 2008, and Conservatee should no longer be held to the 2008 standard, whereby she was found to 'not have the capacity to retain counsel,'" the document reads. It then states that Britney requires private legal counsel to work through her wishes in terminating the conservatorship.
Some in the conservatorship's inner circle have been resigning in recent days, despite the judge's rejection of the pop star's plea. Aside from her attorney, Larry Rudolph (manager) and Bessemer Trust (co-conservator of Britney's estate) also left their positions. And many of those involved have been receiving threats from Spears' die-hard fans - including sister Jamie Lynn.
The former Zoey 101 star spoke out on the conservatorship once more on the same day as Lynne's court petition went public. Jamie Lynn posted a screenshot of a media headline to her Insta Story: "Britney Spears' sister Jamie Lynn shares photos of her home life... after it's revealed she is the ONLY family member not on the singer's payroll." The mom of two captioned the upload, "Facts....now leave my broke-a** alone."
Well, those are all of the updates for now. We don't know what will happen, but one thing's for sure: we'll always love our Princess of Pop.
