She's remained almost silent while her younger sister, Jamie Lynn, has shocked the world with her version of events in her memoir Things I Should Have Said. Now, Britney Spears, being the pop queen that she is, is taking back the narrative with a tell-all memoir of her own. From her childhood and music career to her infamous court-ordered conservatorship, which ended in November 2021 after 14 years, Britney has A LOT to share, and we cannot wait to hear it! Here's what we know.
Page Six was first to report that the singer had "landed a record-breaking publishing deal" with Simon & Schuster, believed to be worth $15 million. This is rumored to have been the conclusion of a bidding war between multiple top publishers who all wanted the book. With all the drama going on between the sisters behind closed doors and online, who can blame them? The final contenders were Simon and Schuster and the New York Post, who believed this deal was the next best thing after Barack and Michelle Obama, who received $60 million for both their memoirs.
In her book and its accompanying press release, Jamie Lynn labeled her big sister "erratic and paranoid" and insisted she take a lie detector test. In response, Britney took to her Instagram and accused her little sister of being a "selfish little brat" who was lying to sell books. "I should have slapped her when I had the chance," she wrote in a since-deleted post. Following this, her lawyer sent Jamie Lynn a cease and desist letter, instructing her to remove any derogatory mentions of the famous singer from her promotional campaign. Yikes.
While fans are super excited to hear Britney finally tell her story, many have expressed their disappointment that she chose to write a book rather than record a tell-all documentary with one of the streaming giants. Not only would this have meant more money for Britney, but this also would have ensured we know that these are finally her thoughts - directly from her mouth only. But alas! We will take what we are given and be grateful! There is no rumored release date just yet or book title, but we will keep you updated with all the details as soon as we know! Stay tuned...
