While today we might know him from his time on Riverdale or his latest rom-com, it wasn't that long ago that Cole Sprouse was part of the Disney child star crew. But unlike so many of his female co-stars, the famous twin didn't suffer the same amount of paparazzi pressure. And today, he's ready to fight anyone who had a bad word to say about his fellow former child stars. Here's the full scoop...
It all kicked off during a recent interview that Cole did with the New York Times, where he was asked how growing up in the public eye impacted him - and others from the Disney crew. And that's when we heard about how Sprouse really felt about the double standard he felt he'd experienced. "My brother and I used to get quite a bit of, 'Oh, you made it out! Oh, you're unscathed!'" he recalled. On the flip side, Cole couldn't help but think about all his other female co-stars who faced nothing but attacks in the public eye during their transition from child stars to young adults. And he certainly wasn't going to stay quiet about it...
"The young women on the channel we were on were so heavily sexualized from such an earlier age than my brother and I that there's absolutely no way that we could compare our experiences," he explained in the interview. "And every single person going through that trauma has a unique experience," he continued. In Cole's eyes, "fame is trauma" and the "child stars going nuts" narrative just does more damage. "I'm violently defensive against people who mock some of the young women who were on the channel when I was younger because I don't feel like it adequately comprehends the humanity of that experience and what it takes to recover."
Don't mind us as we're giving a round of applause for Cole's actions! Want to read more from this woke king? You can check out the full interview here. And be sure to check back soon for more news from the wild, wild world of Hollywood.
