Ed opened up about his relationship with Cherry during an appearance on Dax Shepard's Armchair Expert. The Grammy-winner explained how the two lovebirds were close growing up and ultimately went their separate ways as Sheeran left on tour and Cherry went to Duke University. A few years later, they reunited in the Big Apple.

"One day, she was in New York, and she went to go out with Cherry because Cherry worked on Wall Street," Ed explained of his friend Lauren, who was on tour with him at the time. "And then she was like, 'Oh Cherry Seaborn is in town, do you want to hang out?' I was like, 'Yes.'" But the singer admitted there already was some romantic history between them.

And their shared past had Sheeran feeling nervous for the reunion. "In my head, the last time I'd seen Cherry, we hooked up. So in my head, I was like, what if she remembers that because it was like a while ago. It was very innocent. Very gentle, it was a kiss," the performer sweetly shared.

And while things clearly worked out, Ed is grateful the two didn't get serious until later in life. The Bad Habits singer said that he and Cherry were "really close friends" growing up in their hometown. But if they'd dated in high school, "it would have been a disaster." Now the family of three lives in Suffolk, where the couple grew up together.
