It's a cycle as old as time... A talented musician gets discovered, they become a sensation, and eventually, they get tired of the restraints of the business side of music. Well, the cycle is starting to wear on some talented artists, and they've taken to TikTok to air it all.

While this isn't the first time we've heard artists complaining about marketing moves they're being forced to make, this latest wave has certainly caught the attention of the internet. It all started when Halsey uploaded a TikTok to their account, where they claimed that they had a new song to release, but their record label wouldn't let them do it before manipulating it into a viral moment. "Everything is marketing," the frustrated singer explained in the video. "I just wanna release music, man. And I deserve better than this, TBH." The rant kicked off a spree of other artists sharing their issues with the marketing pressures, including FKA Twigs, Florence from Florence and the Machines, and more. However, that's not where the story ends...

The reaction to this spree of music industry drama created quite the divide online. On one hand, there were fans of music who were disgusted at how superficial the industry had become, with one Twitter user writing, "[TikTok] is literally creating a generation of digital junkies addicted to novelties, to the point that many children and teenagers can no longer watch a whole movie, listen to a song that is longer than 3 minutes." But on the other side of the fence, there were many who were skeptical of the slew of artists griping online. Many started sharing their suspicions online, including Maddie Quinn, a marketing guru, who claimed that those complaint-filled TikToks were a trend itself! So, either way, this situation is seriously packed with drama.
