Consider the months of April and May Harry Styles season. From his latest single, As It Was, to his upcoming album, Harry's House dropping May 20th, we've got tons to look forward to. And to add a cherry on top, the singer sat down for an exclusive interview about his personal life. Here's what he had to say.
Harry recently chatted with Better Homes and Gardens and opened up about how his One Direction past played a large role in his feelings about owning his sexuality. Apparently, during his boyband days, Harry felt silenced by a "cleanliness clauses" in his contract - meaning he had to behave a certain way in order to secure his future in the band. "For a long time, it felt like the only thing that was mine was my sex life," he confessed. "I felt so ashamed about it, ashamed at the idea of people even knowing that I was having sex, let alone who with." But thankfully, his new contract as a solo artist with Columbia doesn't have him feeling so trapped. "I felt free," he said, recalling breaking down in tears upon realizing his new label didn't have such rules.
But even with nothing legally stopping him from getting his freak on and the public knowing about it, Harry is still opting for a life on the private side. "I've been really open with it with my friends, but that's my personal experience; it's mine," he explained of his sexuality. In his eyes, the need to put a label on it at all is something that he feels is incredibly "outdated." "The whole point of where we should be heading, which is toward accepting everybody and being more open, is that it doesn't matter, and it's about not having to label everything, not having to clarify what boxes you're checking," the Watermelon Sugar singer explained.
