Although Taylor Swift's romance with Jake Gyllenhaal didn't last too long, its after-effects are still being scrutinized by fans online. Since the release of the 10-minute-version of Taylor Swift's All Too Well in November, the internet has been filled with shade against Jake Gyllenhaal - who the song is presumed to be about. The Nightcrawler star has apparently had enough of the rumors and recently shared his thoughts on the issue. Here's what he said.

For those who need a little recap of how it all started, we've got you covered. The brief relationship goes back to 2010, when Gyllenhaal, then 29, dated then-20-year-old Swift for three months. Although All Too Well - in both its shorter and longer versions - doesn't actually mention Gyllenhaal's name, Swifties believe the subject of the track to be a distressing relationship between the actor and his now ex-girlfriend.

A few highlights from the video and lyrics that have triggered the ongoing backlash against Gyllenhaal were Swift's mentions of an age gap in the relationship. The lyrics of the song suggest her ex had told her, "If we had been closer in age, maybe it would have been fine," and that made her "want to die." Fans also speculated Swift took a jab at Gyllenhaal's current relationship with Jeanne Cadieu, who is 16 years younger than him. Swift sang, "I was never good at telling jokes, but the punchline goes, 'I'll get older, but your lovers will stay my age.'" Ouch!

Gyllenhaal recently broke his long silence on the subject in an interview with Esquire. "It has nothing to do with me. It's about her relationship with her fans," the actor assured. "It is her expression. Artists tap into personal experiences for inspiration, and I don't begrudge anyone that." Gyllenhaal, who recently turned off commenting on his Instagram due to the backlash, also added, "At some point, I think it's important when supporters get unruly that we feel a responsibility to have them be civil and not allow for cyberbullying in one's name." However, his concern over this issue didn't stop him expressing his appreciation of fans' interest in his personal life. "My life is wonderful," the 41-year-old actor shared. "I have a relationship that is truly wonderful, and I have a family I love so much. And this whole period of time has made me realize that." We're certainly hoping for a future with no bad blood between these two!
