Jamie Lynn Spears Finally Breaks Her Silence on Britney Spears Conservatorship

Britney Spear's appearance at her conservatorship hearing earlier in June created massive ripple effects in Hollywood. From exes to former friends and song collaborators, countless other big names have spoken out in support of the Princess of Pop. And now, Britney's younger sister, Jamie Lynn, has decided to speak her truth.

The 30-year-old former child actress took to Instagram to share her side of the situation. She started by first explaining why the statement was coming just now. "The only reason I haven't [spoken] before is because I felt like until my sister was able to speak for herself and say what she felt she needed to say publicly, that it wasn't my place and it wasn't the right thing to do," Jamie shared. "But now that she's very clearly spoken and said what she needed to say, I feel like I can follow her lead and say what I feel I need to say."

"I'm so proud of her for using her voice," Jamie said. But pride wasn't the only thing on her mind. Despite knowing that she "only loved, adored, and supported" Britney, the Zoey 101 star felt criticized by the public for not being vocal enough about the #FreeBritney movement. "Maybe I didn't support her the way the public would like me to, with a hashtag on a public platform," Jamie admitted in frustration. "But I can assure you that I've supported my sister long before there was a hashtag, and I'll support her long after."

Spears added that while she didn't "owe the public anything," she wanted to make it very clear that there's one thing and one thing only that concerns her: Britney's happiness. "I have nothing to gain or lose [from the conservatorship] either way," the mother of two said. "I am not my family. I am my own person."

"I have made a very conscious choice in my life to only participate in [Britney's] life as her sister, as an aunt to [her] boys," Jamie continued.
