From her down-to-earth sense of humor to her honest approach to interviews, Lizzo is one of the most relatable celebs out there. And she just got 10-times more relatable with her recent confession about her love of Beyoncé's music and the impact it's had on her life over the years. Here's what she had to say...
It all went down on Lizzo's recent appearance on Carpool Karaoke with the late-night funny man himself, James Corden. The two were grooving out to some Bey when things took a turn and Lizzo began explaining her connection to the Grammy Award-winning artist. "When I was shy or when I didn't think I was cool and when I was getting picked on, I would listen to Beyoncé in my bedroom, and it would transport me," the About Damn Time singer confessed. "I would feel something. I would feel like my life was going to be better." The connection that young Lizzo felt towards Bey's music even inspired her to name her flute Sasha Flute in honor of Beyoncé's famous alter-ego, Sasha Fierce!
But the love for Knowles' music didn't end in adolescence. In her early adult years, Lizzo found even more comfort with one album in particular as she grappled with some major life choices. "When I dropped out of college and I was really depressed, I listened to B'Day on repeat," Lizzo explained. "And I would just sing B'Day all the time, and I was like, 'I'm going to be a singer,'" she continued. Talk about manifesting your dreams! And while Lizzo has officially achieved her dreams, she's not satisfied until she can be to someone what Beyoncé was for her. And that's what she's trying to do with her music. We'd say she's off to a pretty great start, wouldn't you?
