Now that the most prestigious night in fashion has come and gone, it's time to applaud the celebs that truly showed up in this year's theme, "In Honor of Karl Lagerfeld." From oversized bows to bridal-inspired gowns, endless pearls, lots of tweeds, a whole lot of flower power, and a uniform black-and-white color scheme, the only thing missing from the evening was the fashion icon himself. Anyways, let's just get right to it.
This year, the guests did not disappoint. Of course, there are going to be some misses; it's fashion-but for the most part, the celebs hit the theme out of the park. Perhaps one of the most commonly associated themes with The House of Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld himself is the black and white color palette. Lagerfeld was known for his white button-down, black tie, and fingerless gloves look, which both Kendall Jenner and his muse, Cara Delevigne, embraced on the carpet. Cardi B and Janelle Monae, too, embraced the classic color combination palette with touches of Karl's personal aesthetic as well.
This year's attendees truly embraced the camellia-style flower that has been a signature part of Chanel's look since its early days. The queen of the evening, Rihanna, showed up fashionably late in a white custom Valentino gown with an exaggerated cape covered in flower, with her baby bump being the star of the show! Oh, and speaking of baby bumps. The gorgeous Karlie Kloss and Serena Williams both revealed their second pregnancies on the Met carpet.
We would be remiss not to mention Kim Kardashians' custom Schiaparelli look, made out of 50,000 pearls, a true nod to Lagerfeld's love for the gorgeous gemstone. The evening's co-host, Dua Lipa, did Lagerdeld justice in a bridal-inspired tweed corset gown, a nod to the brand's signature fabric choice, and Karl's decision to close his couture shows with a "Chanel bride" look. And for the evenings, best dressed? Anne Hathaway. The Devil Wears Prada star stole the show in a white body-hugging tweed Versace gown full of cutouts held together by the house's signature fold safety pins-timeless and beautiful. The evening was lush in beautiful gowns, but only Jared Leto could show up in a life-size cat costume, a nod to Chouette, Lagerfeld's cat. Love it. And now we patiently wait until next year…
