Selena Gomez Fires Back at 'The Good Fight' for Joking About her Kidney Transplant

With almost two decades of experience in the industry under her belt, Selena Gomez has developed some pretty tough skin. And she knew where to draw the line when it came to being the punchline of a controversial joke.
The singer and actress took to her Instagram stories and Twitter in response to a joke that was made about her kidney transplant in a recent episode of The Good Fight. "I am not sure how writing jokes about organ transplants for television shows has become a thing but sadly it has apparently," the upset singer wrote. "I hope in the next writer's room when one of these tasteless jokes are presented it's called out immediately and doesn't make it on air." But throughout the whole ordeal, Selena was feeling thankful for her loyal supporters who were also calling out the show. "My fans always have my back. LOVE YOU."
The joke in question happened during the fourth episode of The Good Fight's fifth season. Jay, played by Nyambi Nyambi, shared with his castmates that he felt the need for "a permission slip to tell a joke," leading him to brainstorming jokes that were too controversial to consider. Necrophilia and autism were thrown around, and finally, Jay suggested "Selena Gomez's kidney transplant." And the former Disney star wasn't the only one who found the joke tasteless. Many took to Twitter to share their own thoughts on the matter and pointed fingers at the CBS show's writing team.
"Selena's health is a very sensitive topic, it's not something to joke about," one user tweeted. "Seriously, they do it so that it trends across social media platforms. FREE PUBLICITY. We should all urge people to not watch this show." And many were drawing parallels to similar incidents that happened on the Saved By the Bell reboot and Ginny and Georgia.
