Breakups are heartbreaking, painful periods of change and loss we hope to go through as few times as possible. But if you thought this was a human experience limited to just us 'regular' folk, think again! Shailene Woodley has come to prove that A-list celebrities are no exception to this, describing her breakup with Aaron Rodgers as the "darkest hardest time." The Hollywood actress split from the NFL player in February 2022, one year after news of their engagement made headlines. While Woodley has strived to keep herself busy through the transition, she told Porter Magazine it's not been easy. Here's what she had to say...

In February 2022, Shailene's relationship was coming to an end, all while she was filming the upcoming drama, Three Women. Talking of this conjunction, the actress described it as painful yet surprisingly cathartic. "It was hard to film because I was going through the darkest, hardest time in my life; it was winter in New York, and my personal life was s---ty, so it felt like a big pain bubble for eight months," she explained to Porter. "I was so grateful that at least I could go to work and cry and process my emotions through my character."

After Shailene and Aaron announced their relationship and engagement, the couple received an influx of media attention. For Woodley, this was an unexpected response, and she told Porter this gave her new insight into the social media world. "It honestly never really hit me that millions of people around the world were actually watching these things and paid attention to them," she noted. "Then, I dated somebody in America who was very, very famous. It was the first time that I'd had a quote-unquote 'famous' relationship, and I watched [the] scrutiny, opinions, the desire for people to know my life and his life and our life."

Continuing her thoughts, she reflected to Porter on this increased interest in her life. "It just felt violating in a way that, before, it was fun. I'm a very private person, and so I found that any time I posted anything, I instantly felt like I was sharing too much of who I am with people I didn't necessarily trust." While their individual posts and interviews suggest no bad blood between the ex-lovers, it seems to be the official chapter end. As for their next romantic interests? Stay tuned.
