When you're a Billboard-topping artist with 11 Grammy Awards to your name, why not add an honorary degree into the mix? Well, that's exactly what our girl Taylor Swift accomplished earlier this month, and we couldn't be prouder! Here's the full scoop.
The iconic singer has had a career that's spanned decades and has taken her from a humble, country-loving Pennsylvania girl to one of the biggest names in the music industry. So, it was only natural for Swift to get some recognition for the huge impact she's had on pop culture over the years. And what better way to honor her than with the highest level of academic recognition one can get for music? Clearly, that's what the folks over at New York University were thinking when they invited Taylor to appear at their graduation ceremony and get an honorary degree. So, you can now refer to our favorite country/pop artist as Doctor Taylor Swift! That's right, the 32-year-old now holds an honorary degree in Fine Arts. But that's not all...
Taylor also took the opportunity to address her fellow classmates at the ceremony that was held at NYC's Yankee Stadium. "Hi, I'm Taylor," the humble celeb started off. "Last time I was in a stadium this size I was dancing in heels and wearing a glittery leotard. This outfit is much more comfortable." Taylor then went on to commend the cohort of grads for getting through their degree during the pandemic - which was no easy feat. "I would like to say to you, wholeheartedly, you should be very proud of what you've done," the fellow grad gushed. She then went on to give the college grads some vital advice, including "[learning] to live alongside 'cringe,'" and so much more. It's safe to say that this was no ordinary convocation, and TBH we can't imagine that anyone was asleep in the stands this time!
