Zendaya has continually amazed fans throughout her entire career with her passion, self-love, and talent as an actress and musician. And at the 2021 Critics Choice Awards, she received the fifth annual SeeHer Award. This award is meant to honor a woman who demonstrates the SeeHer movement's values, which works to accurately portray women and girls in the media.
Zendaya's costar from Malcolm & Marie, John David Washington, presented the actress with the award, and he certainly had plenty of incredible things to say about Zendaya. "What stood out to me most, besides her incredible talent, was her wisdom and discernment," Washington shared. "At 24-years-old, Zendaya is already a formidable actor, but she's also a formidable force for good."

The first thing Zendaya did was thank her close friend, John David Washington, upon receiving the award. During her acceptance speech, she shared that she felt the best word to describe her emotions regarding the award was "gratitude," saying, "this word just keeps coming to mind. Especially with the year everyone has had," Zendaya explained. "To continue to be grateful for every single moment, big and small." She also emphasized the importance of being thankful for all of the significant people who make everything that we all do possible.
"Make sure we hold onto our loved ones a little bit tighter," the actress continued. "Make sure we call them, acknowledge them, tell them we love them. And take in moments like this." In the spirit of International Women's Day, Zendaya thanked all of the inspirational females who've helped her along the way. "I would absolutely not be here if it weren't for the incredible women who paved the way for me to be here," she said.
Before the show began, Nadine Karp McHugh, the president of SeeHer, revealed what made Zendaya the ideal candidate for this award. "We are delighted to be presenting the award to Zendaya, who is such a strong representation of what it means to be a woman in 2021," she explained. "She is showing the next generation that you are never too young to use your voice to make a difference." Evidently, Zendaya has already made an incredibly positive impact on our society, and we can't wait to see what comes next for this icon!
