Here's Why Camila Mendes, Lili Reinhart, and Madelaine Petsch Have "Never Been Closer"
| LAST UPDATE 04/09/2021
In a recent tell-all interview, Camila Mendes revealed why she and cast members Lili Reinhart and Madelaine Petsch are closer than ever. Plus, how the actress really feels about starring in the hit show Riverdale.
Camila Mendes has confirmed what we long suspected: you don't need a man when you've got reliable besties at your side. "We all got out of relationships at the same time and then went through this pandemic together," she shared, referring to castmates Lili Reinhart and Madelaine Petsch. "And now we've been bonded by how much change has happened. Me, Madelaine, and Lili, specifically, we've never been closer than we have this season."

In case you missed it, Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse broke up a few months ago (we're still not over it). Madelaine Petsch also experienced heartbreak after splitting from boyfriend of three years musician Travis Mills, and Mendes and her ex Grayson Vaughan called it quits in February. So, the gal pals bonded over their new singledom during these strange pandemic times.
But that's not the only thing Camila opened up about in the Paper Magazine interview: she admitted that a series like Riverdale wasn't what her younger self dreamt of starring in. "I never expected that I was going to be on a show that was that successful and has such a cult following," the actress explained. "And that probably wasn't initially what I had wanted for my career. But now that I have it, I'm like, 'Oh my god, this is amazing.'"
The 26-year-old attended New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and revealed how a little white lie landed her on the theater track at the performing, cinematic, and media arts school. "They asked, 'Have you ever written any plays?' and I was like, 'Actually, yes I have.' But the plays I had written were literally just for a class assignment where it wasn't my choice," Mendes said. "They jotted down some notes, and the next thing I know I'm in a studio called Playwrights Horizons." The Dangerous Lies star also confessed she misses theater school and would like to "reconnect with that part of myself." Camila rocking our small screens and the theater stage? Yes, please!
