Earlier this year, Hulu announced that a new true-crime series was in the works, titled The Girl From Plainville. Based on true events, the series has fans already waiting for its release. And now an official trailer has been dropped, showcasing the lead role, Elle Fanning. Here's everything you need to know!
The Girl From Plainville was adapted from an Esquire article by Jesse Barron, where it discussed how the judicial system has struggled to keep up with today's technological advancements. Not to mention, social media and continual texting have been shown to affect the mental health of various teens. Barron served as a consulting producer on the team working on the show.
The show will cover the events that happened eight years ago in the state of Massachusetts, where a woman, Michelle Carter, was sent to prison on account of manslaughter. Allegedly, she was texting a boy and encouraged his suicidal thoughts. Unfortunately, he listened to her commands. The start of the trailer shows Carter, played by Fanning, walking into the room where her ex's parents are sitting. With a concerned look on her face, she reveals to them that Conrad Roy, whose portrayed by Colton Ryan, had passed away. Other stars that are set to be featured include Chloë Sevigny as Lynn Roy, Cara Buono as Gail Carter, Kai Lennox as David Carter, Norbert Leo Butz as Conrad Roy's father.

The teaser showed viewers that the show would showcase the confusing relationship Roy and Carter had with one another. As Decider further put it, "Carter's relationship with Roy, the events that led to his death, and later, her highly-publicized trial." Eventually, Carter was sent to court, where thousands of people began questioning whether it was truly her fault. Can a person be responsible for another's demise, all thanks to text messages? We guess we'll have to wait and see when the series comes out. The first three episodes will be released on March 29th on Hulu. The rest of the episodes will come out each week after, for 5 following weeks. Until then, stay tuned.
