After the fifth edition of the movie Scream received major success earlier this year, it looks like the creators of the franchise are already moving forward with a Scream 6. Here's everything we know so far about the next film.

Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, and Jenna Ortega played the new characters of Scream that was released in January. But of course, the OG members of the horror storyline also returned to Woodsboro for all the thrilling scenes. Including Courtney Cox who played the iconic Gale Weathers, and David Arquette as Dwight 'Dewey' Riley. And now it looks like (most) of these characters will also be back for the sequel. "I got the script yesterday," the Friends alum shared during an episode of the "Just for Variety" podcast. "I haven't read it yet, I just got it. ... I'm excited to read it, and I know they're going to start filming ... I think, in June, in Canada." During the recent movie, it was revealed that Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere) survived Scream 4 so fans are hopeful that her character will also return for the next film.

“We are tremendously grateful to the fans around the world who enthusiastically received our film,” revealed Paramount and Spyglass during a statement in which they announced the sequel in February 2022. “We can’t wait for audiences to see what Radio Silence, writers Jamie [Vanderbilt] & Guy [Busick] and Project X have in store for our Woodsboro family.”

Scream 5 was the first film of the franchise not directed by the legendary Wes Craven as he sadly passed away in 2015. Instead, it was directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who will also be on set for Scream 6. "Wes has always been a huge influence on us,” Gillett confessed to Nerdist back in January. “He’s been a huge part of us finding our own voice. We’ve always referenced Wes’ movies when trying to sell ours. Scream was one we referenced all the time when we were getting Ready or Not made.” We can't wait to see what these guys have in store for us, although we do have a while to see since the release date is set for March 31, 2023.
