Hey now, hey now, this reboot was what dreams are made of... but unfortunately, it never came to be. And while we're still grieving on what could have been with the Lizzie McGuire reboot, at the very least, we have some more details about what was in store for Lizzie McGuire in her adult years.
In a recent interview with Cosmopolitan, our favorite former Disney star spilled the tea on the plot of the scrapped reboot. "My character was moving back home with her parents because she caught her soon-to-be fiancé cheating on her," the now 34-year-old actress shared. "She was falling flat on her face at that moment and being like, 'I need to pivot because everything that I thought was wasn't, and I'm turning 30. What the ****?'" The series was set to include familiar faces from the original Disney production that ran from 2001 to 2004, at the peak of the channel's tween comedy era. But it turned out that sticking with such a family-friendly channel wasn't the right fit for the reboot, and production stopped abruptly after filming had already commenced.
"I would be lying if I didn't say I didn't have those thoughts a few times. But I wouldn't," the How I Met Your Father star further told Cosmopolitan when asked about leaking the two finished reboot episodes. "I've realized that everything does happen for a reason," Duff explained. "There's a time and a place for everything. It just wasn't her moment." And while the rest of us are still upset over what could have been, Hilary's positive approach certainly helps soften the blow. "I'm constantly asked about it still," she explained. "All it does is breathe life into the fact that people still want it, and that's really sweet. It's not dead, and it's not alive."
