Netflix has released the official trailer for its new series, Ginny & Georgia. The show centers around a mother-daughter duo and is giving off some serious Gilmore Girls vibes - just a bit more sinister.
The drama series follows Ginny Miller, a fifteen-year-old teen, and her glamorous thirty-year-old mom, Georgia Miller, as they move to a new town. The mother is played by Brianne Howey, known for her roles in The Passage (2019) and The Exorcist (2016). Up-and-coming actress Antonia Gentry stars as Ginny in her first on-screen appearance.
"My mom had me when she was my age," Ginny explains in the show's newly released trailer. "We move a lot, so I'm always the new girl." But as the young teen tries to acclimate herself to the new town, her mom's past follows the family and possibly puts them in danger.
First-time producer Debra J. Fisher said they wanted Ginny & Georgia to be "a fun, feel-good ride about women, by women, for everyone; one that depicted a nuanced, complicated mother-daughter relationship, and layered female friendships in a way that isn't always seen in shows."
Some viewers think the dynamic between the mom and daughter is similar to that between Rory and Lorelai in the classic comedy-drama Gilmore Girls. In fact, Georgia herself says so in the trailer! "We're like the Gilmore Girls, but with bigger boobs!" she jokes.
While the upcoming series may be comparable to the early 2000s hit, it certainly seems Netflix has taken a more sinister take. "I've done things I'm not proud of, but I'd do 'em again," Georgia says in the trailer. "I'd do anything to protect my kids like no one ever protected me. Anything." Ginny & Georgia will be streamable on Netflix starting February 24th.
