Since the reboot of Gossip Girl back in July, we've embarked on quite the trip down memory lane as we revisit the 2007 teen drama that first got the ball rolling. And it turns out that we're not the only ones... Jessica Szohr, better known by GG fans as Vanessa Abrams, had some thoughts to share a decade after the show wrapped up. And they're not all positive ones...
"I feel like [Vanessa] definitely got the short end of the stick," Jessica confessed during a recent interview with Vogue. "[She] was funny to me because there were so many parts of her that I really liked," she continued. "There were other parts where I would think, 'Why is she on the Upper East Side again?' When she hooked up with Chuck, I was thinking, 'Why hook up with Chuck? Why is Chuck hooking up with her?'" Vanessa's passionate flings and catty fights were all apart of the drama that made up Gossip Girl - but unlike some of the other stars of the show, Jessica felt that she didn't get a lot of love from the fans. "Some of the stuff that was written [in the show] was so cringe-worthy and was annoying," Szohr joked. "So if I annoyed you and you cringed at Vanessa, then I was doing my job."
And that outlook helped Jessica rise above the hate that came her way. "I don't really look at comments and read those types of things just because when the show it, there were so many opinions," the now 36-year-old actress explained. "I didn't read a bunch of comments because if people are being harsh or weird, I'm not going to spend my time looking at that... I was bringing her to life the best that I could with what was written, and if you didn't like it, then I think I was doing my job."
