Imagine a world where Andrew Garfield did not represent one of the most iconic superheroes of our generation. That's right, Joe Jonas was so close to being the nation's beloved Spider-Man. Although it didn't work out, he couldn't have done it without a few pushes along the way...
Way back when, in 2010, auditions started rolling for The Amazing Spider-Man, which made its debut in theaters in 2012. The trilogy of films starred Andrew Garfield, the English and American actor who got everyone's spidey senses going. Of course, it's not easy to land such a culturally dominating role. In fact, Garfield went up against some tough competition during the audition process - that being the Jo-Bro himself, Joe Jonas. It's now almost impossible to imagine a world where the Camp Rock alumn would have been the one saving Gwen Stacey. Still, everything happens for a reason, no matter how heartbreaking. For Jonas, his Spider-Man rejection "destroyed" him, and now, a decade later, he is reflecting on that classic Hollywood show-biz moment in his life. Despite his rockstar music career, this was the role of his dreams, and he was fortunate enough to be a part of the lengthy casting process.
Considering this was a surprise career move for Joe, his connection with film director Marc Webb, who previously worked on music videos, helped Jonas get his "foot in the door." When Jonas appeared on a Just for Variety podcast episode in 2015, he reminisced briefly, explaining, "I remember years ago I was up for Spider-Man, and I was so, so excited, and it was the year Andrew Garfield got it. Obviously, he was the right one." He continued, "I remember that was a big thing at the time, going back for callbacks... In the moment, you're destroyed, or you're defeated. But you realize [the person who got the part] was brilliant." Despite the rejection, he couldn't have reached that far in the process without one specific person who coached him. The one who is there for him in sickness and in health - and now in auditions, his wife and G.O.T. star, Sophie Turner. The middle Jonas brother gushed over her, "when you have a wife like Sophie Turner, who is a phenomenal actress, the one filming you and directing you through it, you got to bring your A-game." She was his "toughest critic," but realistically, it was all tough love. She just wanted to see her hubby succeed. What a dynamic duo.

Although Joe's talent certainly did not go unnoticed, he never got the chance for a spidey suit fitting. Considering Hollywood is full of rejections, Joe had his partner in crime to help him work through this one. Nevertheless, he's got lots to be proud of these days. And we can't wait to see what comes next...
