When Teen Wolf was on the air, you'd be pretty hard-pressed to find a teen that wasn't obsessed with the supernatural thriller. From 2011 to 2017, MTV cashed in big on the teen sensation that captivated American pop culture. When the show ended, fans were dying for more - and their prayers were finally answered back in September 2021 when MTV announced a revival movie for the series! But since then? The news surrounding Teen Wolf hasn't exactly been positive...
The backlash started to boil on February 15th, when Paramount+, the production company leading the project posted the cast list for Teen Wolf: The Movie. Fans scoured the list for their favorite characters from back in the day and were thrilled to see names like Tyler Posey, Crystal Reed, Colton Haynes, Holland Roden, and so many more. But the walk down memory lane went sour when loyal supporters of the show caught on to one actress in particular who was missing: Arden Cho, who joined the cast in season three as Kira.
Deadline later blew the story wide open by reporting that Arden had turned down the opportunity to join the film after being offered half the salary compared to her co-stars. "According to sources, Cho... was offered half the per-episode salary proposed to her three counterparts, leading to her decision to pass," the report read. And what makes it all the more upsetting to fans? The fact that Cho was the only actress of color amongst the females on the show. The backlash has raised age-old riffs in Hollywood about race and gender, and the fans were not happy. "Absolutely sick to the stomach about how teen wold treated Arden Cho when the show was still airing," one angry Twitter user shared.

So there's no Stiles and there's no Kira because they decided to pay the only woman of color half the salary that everyone else was offered. Why the fuck would I watch this? https://t.co/REgd9x1BZH

And while the show may not value her talent, Arden's cause was supported by another former star of the show, Dylan O'Brien, who also passed on the movie. He was caught liking a tweet calling out the treatment of his co-star! Stay tuned for more on this developing story...
