Charity Lawson, the newest lead of the 20th season of The Bachelorette, is not here for the naysayers. With the premiere right around the corner, critics have been quick to throw shade her way, citing decreasing ratings as a reason to skip out on this season. But Lawson isn't letting the haters get her down.
"If they don't want to watch, they don't have to," she exclusively told The Messenger. "I'm learning to just say, 'Whatever' to the naysayers." Lawson, a child and family therapist, is ready to take on the challenge of finding love among 25 eligible bachelors. And while opening night is known to be chaotic, viewers can expect some extra-special limo entrances that are sure to catch Lawson's attention. "First impressions really do start right out the limo. If I could take myself back in that moment and relive everything again, I would start right there. There were some very key limo entrances," she said, teasing the drama to come.
But it won't be all smooth sailing for Lawson and the men vying for her heart. As a trained therapist, Lawson had to utilize her clinical skills more than once to navigate intense and emotional conversations with the contestants. "I think a lot of clinical skills come into play when I'm having these one-on-one conversations, definitely utilizing those skills there," she explained. "But with conflict resolution, with as much stress as I was under and all the things going on, I could have probably used a little bit more emotional regulation, because sometimes it just doesn't exist!"
