Influencer Danielle Bernstein, better known by her moniker We Wore What, is facing backlash after announcing that her brand would be selling facemasks that look very similar to ones made by Latina-owned small business By Second Wind.
Instagram account @diet_prada, who's known for calling out discrepancies amongst fashion brands, posted a side-by-side shot of Danielle's new masks next to By Second Wind's model.
The post included screenshots from an Instagram DM conversation between Danielle and the owner of By Second Wind, Karen Perez, who offered to send Danielle free samples of their masks. Just 3 days later, Danielle DM'd the owner again letting her know that she was also making masks for her line, complete with By Second Wind's signature detachable gold chain detailing.
Danielle took to her IG story Tuesday morning to address the allegations, saying, "in the spirit of transparency, I wanted to let her know that I had already gone into production on linen masks with chains. Because wearing masks is so important right now, I definitely encourage you guys to check out her brand too."
Just a few hours later, Danielle returned to IG where she said that she had been receiving death threats. "A chain on a mask is not an original concept and I never claimed for that to be my own," she said.
