Apple has always been there to help us keep control of our lives. From our dry cleaning reminders to our social calendars, they have an app for everything, helping to ease the burden of our daily tasks. With the debut of iOS16, Apple has truly upped its game, updating its health and fitness apps in numerous exciting ways. For the first time, we can keep track of our medications and step counts in one place. Here's a lowdown of some of the best features to come along with this software update.
First up is the fitness app, which has finally become available on the iPhone. With iOS 15 and earlier, only apple watch owners could access the fitness app. Using motion sensors, the software helps to keep track of data such as calories and step count. You can also set a daily Move, Exercise, and Stand goal.
"Medications" is a particularly exciting new feature of the Health app. Select Browse and then scroll down to Medications. Here, you can input all your medications, whether prescription, over-the-counter, or even vitamins. Schedule the times you like to take each of them, the dose, and the form, and receive reminders on cue. To make matters easier, there is an option to scan the pill bottle label. Customize the shape and size of the pill to help you easily identify the correct medication. Once alerted, mark it as taken or skipped, and you're good to go! While you relax, the health app will always keep on top of matters, checking for potential side effects and ensuring that none of your pills negatively interact with each other.

The Sleep tab of the Health app now allows users to track their sleep patterns in a new way. It will record different stages of sleep, including Awake, REM, Core(light), and Deep sleep. This information can help you to understand how well you slept, allowing you to act accordingly. The bedtime feature can track when you head to bed, record the time it takes to fall asleep, and the number of times you wake up at night. Finally, the Health Sharing feature allows users to easily share their health information with friends and family if they wish to do so.
