The world of fashion is mourning a tremendous loss. After fighting a serious diagnosis for years, legendary creative Virgil Abloh has tragically lost his life at the age of 41. Here's what we know...
For starters, Virgil devoted his entire life to the fine-tune craft of fashion. He was the creative director of both Louis Vuitton and Off-White, two enormously successful brands with a fierce reputation behind them - thanks to the genius of Abloh. From eye-catching runway shows to one-of-a-kind seasonal collections, the late creative was a force to be reckoned with in the industry. And his loss was felt throughout the entire fashion community. From fellow designers to models that worked with Virgil over the years, several tributes have already emerged on the 'gram.
One special tribute came from Hailey Bieber, who had a close and personal relationship with Virgil - in addition to a professional one. In fact, Abloh played an important role in one of the most important days of her life: He designed her wedding dress. "Virgil completely changed the way I looked at street style and fashion, the way he looked at things inspired me deeply," the devastated model shared on Instagram. "I will never be able to fully express how grateful I am to have known him and worked with him."
From Hailey Bieber to Kendall Jenner, everyone that came into contact with Virgil felt the creative passion that he carried with him. In fact, he continuously worked while battling his rare cancer, cardiac angiosarcoma. Just a few months ago, he was the face of a successful Off-White runway show during Paris Fashion Week. "He chose to endure his battle privately since his diagnosis in 2019," the official statement read from Virgil's Instagram page. But even outside of tireless devotion to fashion, Abloh was also a "father, husband, son, brother, and friend," who will be missed by many.
We're sending nothing but love to the Abloh family during this difficult time. And it's safe to say that fashion as we know it will never be the same. Be sure to check back soon for more updates on this heartbreaking story.
